The U.S. Marine Mammal Commission convened a "Range-Wide Gray Whale Science Symposium" on September 9-10, 2026 at the Hatfield Marine Science Center at Oregon State University in Newport, Oregon. Scientists from Mexico, California, Oregon, British Columbia, Alaska, and Russia gathered to share current information, identify information gaps, and future research needed to better document and understand the status of the Eastern North Pacific gray whale population.
